My family and I are very close. I check in with my family at least once a day. At the beginning, it is important to keep your family and friends in the loop of what you are doing. 9 times out of 10, they ARE interested in what you are doing at school. Calling, writing letters, texts or emails are great ways to send a quick update on life.
Try to go home whenever you can, to a certain degree. Don’t ignore your family or friends at home, but don’t bail on your college friends either.
